Under production order number 42141973, this Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing was built in 1955. Under this order, the first owner specified the car in the highly attractive factory colour combination of DB 158 Weissgrau with DB 1073 Russisch-Grün leather upholstery.
According to the factory data card, the car was completed on 16 May 1955 and delivered on 23 May 1955 to the Mercedes-Benz dealer in Dortmund. The original delivery note identifies G. Deilmann Bergbau GmbH, Bentheim, Germany, as the first owner.
Over the course of its history, this exceptional Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing made its way to the United States.
From 1989 onwards, the Gullwing formed part of the collection of hotelier John Willard “Bill” Marriott, owner of the world-renowned Marriott Hotels. The car remained in his collection for several years before returning to Germany in 1996.
Its new German owner – a long-standing client of our company – carefully preserved the Gullwing for more than 25 years before entrusting us with its sale in 2021. Through our brokerage, this remarkably original Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing found its current home in an outstanding private collection in southern Germany.
Between 2021 and 2022, the car underwent an extensive mechanical refurbishment on behalf of its current owner, with the entire project managed and supervised by our team. Every aspect of the work is comprehensively documented with invoices and supporting records.
A benchmark example in every respect and a car for the discerning collector. Its beautifully preserved original interior, combined with an outstanding paint finish, perfectly reflects the exceptional quality and authenticity of this remarkable Gullwing.
