The white BMW 507 Roadster was one of the undisputed highlights of the 37th Frankfurt Motor Show. In September 1955, the elegant roadster designed by Albrecht Graf Goertz captivated both the international motoring press and visitors to Hall 1.
When series production commenced in early 1957, the BMW 507 was priced at DM 26,500. From July 1958, the price increased to DM 29,950. BMW originally planned to produce approximately 1,500 cars per year over a three-year production period, with projected annual sales of 850 cars in Germany and a further 650 examples in export markets.
Market demand, however, proved considerably more limited than BMW had anticipated. Ultimately, just 254 examples of the BMW 507 Roadster were produced between 1957 and 1959.
The example offered here was completed on 11 March 1959 and delivered on 25 May 1959 to the FADEX Commercial Corporation in New York.
According to the BMW 507 Register, the car subsequently spent several years with collectors in Switzerland and the United States before becoming part of Lothar Frank’s automobile museum in Bad Rothenfelde near Osnabrück, Germany.
For the past two decades, the BMW 507 has formed part of a collection in southern Germany. Throughout this period, it has been technically maintained by BMW Classic in Munich, while the interior was renewed in 2018.
