In February 1954, the new Mercedes-Benz 300 SL celebrated its world premiere in New York – the first time a new Mercedes model was unveiled outside Germany. The public and trade press alike were enthusiastic.
In the spring of 1957, the 300 SL Roadster replaced the legendary “Gullwing” and now made open-top driving pleasure possible in the high-performance sports car class as well. The newly developed rear axle design was significantly superior to its predecessor and ensured noticeably improved driving characteristics.
The vehicle shown here was first delivered to Studebaker-Packard in South Bend, USA, on December 16, 1957. The first owner chose white (DB 50) as the exterior color in combination with blue leather upholstery (333).
In the mid-1990s, the car returned to Germany and was registered in Berlin to a customer of our clientele.
In 2008, the current owner took over the vehicle and commissioned the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in Fellbach to carry out a comprehensive engine overhaul.
A total of over 110,000 euros was documented as having been invested in the vehicle. Since then, the vehicle had been driven for about 27.000 km and the owner has had the car serviced regularly at a Mercedes-Benz dealership he trusts.
The vehicle still has its original engine, original transmission, original front and rear axles, original chassis, original steering, and numerous body parts with factory-stamped numbers—an impressive testament to its originality.
In October 2025 we commissioned a complete overhaul and repair of the entire braking system. In addition, further service work was performed by our Mercedes-Benz 300 SL specialist Jürgen Kassen. A detailed invoice for €22,464.40 is on file and documents all the work performed.
The scope of delivery also includes an original and expensive white hardtop and a twopiece luggage set.
