Sold by Axel Schuette Fine Cars

It was a great honor to be able to offer this beautiful and powerful Ferrari 340 America Berlinetta. One of only three America Berlinettas built with a beautiful touring body.

The new name “America” found in the Ferrari typology was aimed at the then new but up-and-coming and promising sales market in the USA.

The new engine, which was also used in Formula 1, had an increased displacement of 4.1 liters in the 340 model. The engine produced around 230 hp / 169 kW at 6,000 rpm.

The Ferrari 340 America debuted on April 23, 1951 at the Mille Miglia with drivers Luigi Viloresi and Piero Cassani in a Vignale Coupé. The name “America” was aimed at the new emerging target market in the USA.

A total of 10 Ferrari 340 America vehicles were built at Vignale, 8 vehicles at Touring and 4 vehicles at Ghia. This results in a total of 22 vehicles. Of the 8 cars built by Touring, only 2 vehicles were in the closed version shown here.

The car presented here was delivered to the Ferrari dealer Comptoir Automobiles Richard SA in Brussels, Belgium on August 20, 1951. On January 19, 1952 #0122A was exhibited at the 35th Brussels Motor Show. In the first few years #0122A was owned exclusively by Belgian Ferrari enthusiasts.

In 1953 the car was sold to Jacques Swaters from the Francorchamps garage. About Mr. Swaters gave the 340 America to the racing driver Pierre d’Haveloose, who took part in some races in Belgium. In 1957, Armand “Blary” Blaton, Jacky Ickx’s father-in-law, bought the car and, among other things, took part in the 4th Rallye d’Automne.

In the years that followed, the car returned to the Francorchamps garage and then to the famous collector Dr. Paul F. Schouwenburg, who had the car restored and documented the process in his book “Ferrari Fever”. From 1986 to 2010 #0122A was part of the famous Lucchini collection in Italy.

The Ferrari 340 America has been in our customer base since 2013 and was certified by Ferrari Classiche with a so-called “Red Book” in 2017.
